Now, I am aware that I’m not an official New Yorker… yet. I’ve only lived here for five years, so I have two more to go until I get my card that allows me to say “Hi, I’m from New York”. I still love the state in it’s entirety though. Yes, even upstate. Woodstock? Cooperstown? the Adirondacks? There is so much to offer even with out New York City. But, sometimes upstate gets left in the dust, overshadowed by it’s gargantuously big brother, which should have probably been part of New Jersey anyway. And sadly, it seems to have happened again with the aftermath of Irene. Perhaps the press got so tired of over-dramacizing our little tropical storm here in the city, that they didn’t feel like driving upstate to cover the hurricane.
My friend Martin Rivas decided to head up a project to raise funds and awareness for victims in the Schoharie Valley. A bunch of NY based artists have donated their music for a compilation entitled “After the Flood”. I’m proud to be part of it! The album is available for download at http://aftertheflood.bandcamp.com/ . Please help the cause and get some great music while you’re at it!
Here’s a before/after image of the Schoharie Valley from the top of the Vroman’s Nose cliff, which majestically towers over the Valley. In the before pic you can make out the wee little seemingly-innocuous Schoharie Creek, on the left at the bend of the valley.
