Bay Area Shows!
I’m super psyched to be out on tour right now with two of the best songwriters I know, Steve Seskin and Liz Longley. We will be playing in the Bay area over the next ten days or so, and I’m looking forward to learning a lot. I’ve already been informed that Steve has written 1,400 songs… wow. That’s like one a day for 5 years or something. So lesson #1, I need to get writing. As I sit here in Steve’s office I am surrounded by platinum record awards and albums that his songs have been a part of. I’m staring at “Life’s a Dance” by John Michael Montgomery at the moment… remember that one?
If you live in the area please come to a show! We’ll be in Santa Clara, San Mateo, Petaluma, and Berkeley over the next week or so. Check the details under the “shows” tab.
Hope to see you soon!
Guts Make Great Drums
Today while waiting in line for a sandwich, I was practicing my paradiddles on my stomach. I realized at that moment, that if I had a six-pack the tone would not be nearly as cool, so I ordered two sandwiches instead of one. Imagine playing drums on Shaun T’s stomach, the tone would be very thin. John Candy however, amazing. This is great for everyone with low-metabolism or bad eating habits to know, because now they can feel super proud. Instructional videos on how to develop a gut with the perfect sound will be coming soon!
The UK is Unfairly Awesome
I’ve just been informed that in England they graduate high school at age sixteen. How unfair that they get a two year head start on us Americans! That will now become my excuse for everything in life. If only I would’ve had that opportunity I could have become a doctor by my age. If I were a doctor right now I’d be making heaps of money. If I had heaps of money, I’d hire Phil Ramone. If I hired Phil Ramone I’d be famous. See how that works? My new excuse for everything. But, since I grew up in the states here is my still very fortunate reality…
I’m sitting in London hanging out for the final couple of days of my first international tour! I’ve been touring with the amazing Alex Berger ( www.alexbergermusic.com ) and Chrissi Poland ( www.chrissipoland.com ).
We’ve hit up much of England, and I already can’t wait to get back. Yep, I tend to live in the future sometimes. I have been using flash cards to memorize as many British terms as I can, so I can sound what they consider “normal” next time around. Turns out the Midwest accent isn’t neutral, it’s strange. And being that London was around before Minneapolis, I can’t really argue.
Now it’s time to talk about the essence of life: food. Maybe it’s just because people sent me here with really low expectations, but food in England is incredible. My diet has consisted of mainly these: http://www.tunnocks.co.uk/teacake.htm – Like I said, incredible food.
And lastly, let’s talk some about the people. Nicest people ever. Even customer care at the DMV will answer politely and have a conversation with you. It sort of feels like the Truman Show or something. Here’s me with my new mate from AAA, who came and brought us some gas when we ran out on the highway yesterday.
And yes you read right. We ran out of gas. That’s another blog within itself though. Basically, what you need to take away from reading this is that we need to be done with school at age fifteen to compete with England and that even though you don’t have an accent you actually do. Pretty cool, right?
Finally… a new song!
Well, I’ve pretty much had writers block for the past 10 months, so it was pretty exciting when a new song came out. My brain is finally working again, and I’ll be pumpin’ the tunes out for an album I’m looking to put out next winter. Here’s a break-up song. Don’t ask me how I wrote it, ’cause I’ve been in a great relationship for about 10 years now.
