Rocky Mountain Song Contest – 1st Prize!

I am happy to announce I received first prize this past Friday for the Rocky Mountain Folk Festival song contest! There were some 600 entries and 10 finalists. Everyone was amazing, so it was quite an honor. On top of a nice confidence boost, I received a brand new custom Taylor guitar (picture below) as well as my own slot on the main stage next August. This is extra exciting for me because I have been going to this festival since I was 11 years old, and have imagined what I would do with this opportunity since then. 362 day to go!

Rocky Mountain Song Contest Finalist

I’m please to announce I am a finalist in the 2011 Rocky Mountain Songwriter’s Showcase. This is pretty sweet, because I have grown up going to this festival and have been submitted my songs to this contest since I was 15. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing… maybe it means they just felt sorry for me or have a rule that you automatically make it after 10 years. Either way, I’ll take it!

Past showcase finalists include Erica Wheeler, Don Conoscenti, Karen Pernick, Deb Talan, Dan Sheridan, Dee Carstensen, Mitch Barrett, Sarah Sample, Chuck E. Costa, and Liz Longley. That company ain’t too shabby! I’ll update you later with what happens.

Show Review from patch.com

Nice review of a show at Godfrey Daniels from patch.com

With a day off between gigs in Phoenixville and State College, on a cold winter day three years ago, Caleb Hawley decided to take a detour to a legendary listening room musician friends in New York had raved about: Godfrey Daniels in South Bethlehem.

When he arrived, the show had already started, blues music emanating from the coffee house. Hawley just poked his head in and looked around. That night was the first time the struggling young musician from Fargo, N.D. slept in his car in a parking lot a block away.

On Saturday night, Hawley was back in South Bethlehem, this time as a star of a contemporary folk music showcase he organized for Godfrey’s. (more…)

A Few Local Props

Well, I must say it’s been an honor to get some recognition from the city in which I live this week! Happy to be listed by the Deli as “Best of NYC”. Check it here: http://nyc.thedelimagazine.com/node/4078 …

Yeah I’m last on the list… so what. Last but not least is the attitude in which I’m approaching it.

I also got a nice mention from WFUV’s Sunday Breakfast host John Platt, who listed “Steps” as a best of 2010 album. http://www.wfuv.org/music/best/bestof10_staff

Alright! Thanks NYC… lovin’ the scene, lovin’ the support.

thisismodern.net Review of “Steps”

Got a nice review of “Steps” on thisismodern.net – thanks guys!

As a bright young talent, Caleb Hawley has created an excellent new album with incredible songs that range through a variety of genres. He does not pin himself down at all on this album, showing off his incredible vocal abilities with a soulful delivery. The highlights of the album are reggae song “Real Vacation” and the folk rocker “My Own Two Feet.” The biggest surprise is a cover of the song “The Way It Is,” which Hawley interprets in such a way that it keeps its classic appeal while still feeling new and fresh. Caleb Hawley is one of those special unknowns that you love discovering, and his latest album is definitely worth discovering.
